Love is the greatest thing in the world
by Michael Hammers
“No matter what your faith or religious belief, the tree, the Channel Gardens, the ice skating rink, the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular…plus the windows at Saks always produce feelings of warmth and love. There is no other Christmas tree in the world like the one in the heart of New York, a city known for its magic” wrote Willard Scott in the preface to the book 'The Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center’.
Since 12 years now the magnificent Swarovski Star crowns the world´s most famous Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. My original vision of bringing the quiet, calm glistening of a crystal star as the herald of the infinity of time and space into the hectic hustle and bustle of the city, symbolizes the ingress of eternity into time: Christmas.
Mankind has always been fascinated by stars. Constellations are investigated, interpreted and are said to point the way: stars seem to possess secret knowledge, knowledge of the past and of the future. Where do we come from and where are we going? Let´s all together find the answers in trust and believe that love is the greatest thing in the world; that love will overcome hate, that right can triumph over might; no matter what your birth and background; no matter what your faith or religious belief.
And that is what New York City stands for like no other city in the world.
